(April 20,2009) Obama orders Cabinet to cut spending by $100M
Well, saving a measly hundred million is nothing compared to what has
been spent, but I'll give him credit for making a start. I have
to say, President Obama does actually come back to things he says he
will address later, at least so far. We'll see how all this
turns out. Overall I still think the high spending is dangerous,
but we'll see. For now, any attempt to cut unnecessary spending
gets a "HOPE".
And I mean a really BIG
(April 8, 2009) Obama looking at cooling air to fight warming (AP)
This is by far the stupidest freaking thing I've ever heard come out
of the mouth of the government. "Let's cure global warming,
caused by pollution, by throwing up more pollution!"
Idiocy!
(March 21, 2009) Protesters visit AIG officials' lavish Conn. homes
Congratulations Mr. President. You have succeeded in making
people hate American success and wish for a total government
reallocation of all wealth. Good job. I'm sure the
communists are proud of you.
(March 20, 2009) Obama
reaches out to Iran with video message I don't know that it
will do any good. I don't know that it's even the best
move. But, I admire the effort. This is a hard, hard task.
(March 20, 2009) House passes bill taxing AIG and other bonuses
OK, yes, it is ridiculous that AIG, or any company taking bailout
money, is handing out millions of dollars in bonuses considering they
are in such terrible financial position. I'm sure everyone is
wondering the same thing I am, how did these guys earn a bonus when
the company is failing?
In spite of that, though, I find the idea that
congress and the president plan on passing a bill expressly for the
purpose of taxing that bonus money even more ridiculous.
Government passing LAW specifically targeted at taxing specific
individuals in a specific company?
I'm sorry, but that is a crazy idea! No matter
how ticked off we all are about this bonus situation, do we really
want to set this kind of precedent? We might as well just have
the government decided all salaries for all jobs in all industries
everywhere!
This is way, way, WAY beyond the scope of a reasonable
government!
(Mar 9, 2009) Obama to overturn Bush policy on stem cells
This seems a more logical approach to me. Nobody is talking
about running out and killing babies just so evil scientists can mess
with their genetics. This just takes bureaucracy out of the way
of scientific decision making in my opinion.
(March 3, 2008) Obama tries to pump up confidence in the economy
My personal take on this is that Obama's plan is going to create an
even bigger government than we already have that is only going to drag
on the overall economy as it requires more and more money to keep it
up and running.
Obama's tax policies are backwards. He is trying
to give a break to those who don't make much money of around $400 a
year. He also plans on increasing taxes on the wealthy.
Well, that always sounds good, kind of a Robin Hood
attitude, take money from the rich and give it to the poor.
However, in terms of growing the economy it's completely
backwards. Putting $400 a year in the hands of someone who makes
around $25,000 is about a 1.5% savings. That $400 divided over a
year equals $7.69 a week. Wow, enough to buy one pizza.
That's really going to stimulate the economy, ain't it?
Now, give someone who makes a million dollars a year
1.5% back. That equals $15,000. That's enough to buy some
real products, or make an investment, or start another business.
Oh sure, cutting taxes on the wealthy takes more money
out of the government's budget, but so what? Isn't the
government the single biggest wasteful spender there is?
Now do you see my point?
(Mar 1, 2009) Obama challenges lobbyists to legislative duel
I am sick and tired of everyone in politics, not just the president,
yapping on and on about "special interest" groups and
lobbyists, acting as if these groups are the most evil of enemies,
acting as if they represent a total of two extremely selfish people
who don't give a second's thought to anyone but themselves.
For years, everyone has gone on and on about how the
"special interest" groups are selfishly controlling the
government and how they are the enemy of the American people.
Let me ask you this then, who do you think makes up
these "special interest" groups?
American people! "Special interest"
groups are nothing more than concerned citizens who care enough about
something to get together, put up their money, spend their time, and
put some effort into letting government officials know what they think
and what they want.
What the hell is so wrong with that? Huh?
Isn't that EXACTLY what concerned citizens are supposed to do?
Isn't that who our elected representatives are supposed to listen to?
There is nothing wrong with people speaking up, making
some noise, and telling the government what they believe. More
often than not, the so called "special interest" groups are
the ones most effected by legislation they lobby for or against.
That gives them every right to speak up and try to influence
decisions.
I wish everyone would quit acting like that is so
horrible.
(Feb 26, 2009) OK, this is starting to scare me now....
Everything coming from Obama's mouth lately has been
about spending huge amounts of money while supposedly cutting taxes,
other than one tax increase on the wealthy just mentioned
today.
This makes no sense. He's talking about Wall
Street and bankers needing to exercise responsibility, and yet his
budgets are going to make the "huge" deficits and national
debt of old look like nothing. I realize he believes this is in
response to an economic crisis and that it is necessary and
unavoidable for the time being. I realize he believes this must
be done now to right the economy and that once things are back on
track he'll then focus on re-balancing the budget and paying down our
debt.
BUT... how is that going to work? Won't the kind
of deficits and debt these budgets are going to create put such a
strain on the economy in the future that it will only end up causing
further troubles?
I just can't see how this is going to help.
(Feb 20, 2009) Obama warns mayors not to waste stimulus money
This all sounds good. It really does. I honestly don't
know how well the president can monitor every government agency
throughout the country, but hopefully what he is saying
here will amount to something.
